Using 7 historical and modern flutes, Katja Pitelina illuminates the history of the flute in this concert presentation.
Katja shows how the instruments sound, what the sound possibilities are, their specific sound characters and how composers through the centuries have adapted their repertoire for flute accordingly. In this concert/lecture, Katja gives a general overview and highlights the origins of the flute, its various manifestations, from the mid-fifteenth century: the repertoire, and the stylistic characteristics of the different periods: the Renaissance, the Baroque, the Classical period, the Romantic, the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
