The composer and harpsichordist Johann August Just, who worked in The Hague, is largely unknown to contemporary audiences. Born around 1750 in Saxony-Anhalt, Just studied first with Johann Philipp Kirnberger and later with Friedrich Schwindeln in The Hague.
He later worked for several years as a musician at the court of William V and was music teacher to his wife Wilhelmina of Prussia.
In this programme, Jörn Boysen Katja Pitelina and Duco Burgers present some of his works, combined with music by contemporaries such as Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who visited the court and gave concerts in 1765.
They play a beautiful copy of a mid-17th-century clavichord by Johann Emanuel Schön.
