In the court of Louis XIV in France, music played an important role. Glorious operas and magnificent outdoor orchestras demonstrated the king's power, as well as his refined taste and high level of skill in music. Besides these grand spectacles, there were also smaller chamber music ensembles, such as the one playing in this concert.

The pieces in our programme were published after the death of Louis XIV (1715), but the style of his era still resonates in the music, with many dance-oriented movements. We perform a ‘Suite’, a ‘Ballet’, a ‘Concert’ and a ‘Sonata’, and these all include dances such as the Allemande, the Gigue or the Sarabande.

Originally performed to accompany dancers, these pieces of music evolved over time into purely instrumental compositions to listen to and enjoy.

We cordially invite you to this unique and intimate salon concert, where you can enjoy the interwoven musical conversation - perhaps not too loud, but eloquent and colourful - between two traversos and a theorbo.

Free entrance with donation after the concert
